Ukrainian national tradition and modern symbolic politics

Abstract

The relationship between Ukrainian national tradition and modern symbolic policy is analyzed. The complex relationship between Ukrainian national tradition and modern symbolic policy is characterized. The evolution of Ukrainian national symbolism is clarified, taking into account cultural, religious and political traditions. The symbolic determinants of the formation of a new model of national unity are identified. The role of national symbolism in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war is determined. The achievements and main directions of improving the symbolic policy of Ukraine are systematized. The possibilities of instrumentalizing traditions in symbolic policy are analyzed. Attention is drawn to the likely risks of the current authorities and politicians using traditional symbols to legitimize their status or mobilize support among the population. The conclusions are drawn according to which: 1) political traditions, on the one hand, consolidate the people and create a formula of traditionalism as an ideology of survival, but, on the other hand, these traditions require constant renewal through interaction with innovative activities, the creation of their own philosophy of traditionalism, which will combine national characteristics with the challenges of modernity; 2) modern Ukrainian statehood is faced with the need to institutionalize fundamentally new political traditions that were born in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war; accordingly, this includes consolidating the latest practices and creating mechanisms for their transmission to future generations as an integral part of political culture; 3) тhe digital age creates unique opportunities for the development of political traditions through the latest information and communication technologies, which allow millions of citizens to be involved in the political process, form new forms of participation and control, and at the same time require a rethinking of traditional ideas about political stability and continuity, a balance between preserving national authenticity and openness to global trends, between the heroization of the past and its critical rethinking.
