Foreign intelligence services on modern threats to national security

Abstract

In the course of the study, the authors of the article analyzed changes in the criteria for assessing threats to national security by the special services of NATO member states in light of current events in the world related to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of our state, which led to certain changes in international policy and had a destructive impact on the state of national security of Ukraine. Research has shown that at this time, the positions of foreign special services of the world's leading countries regarding the criteria for assessing modern challenges and threats to national security have changed radically. In particular, according to experts and analysts from the special services of NATO member states, the main factors that have the most destructive impact on the state of national security are intelligence activities and information wars against European countries, foreign interference in the politics of another sovereign state, discrediting the democratic system, international terrorism, extremism on socio-political grounds, risk processes related to migration, etc. It has been established that the special services of NATO member states, from the list of major threats to national security, prioritize such destabilizing factors of influence as unlawful interference in the country's internal affairs, sponsorship of extremism and terrorism, committing numerous cyber-attacks on various information structures and networks, spreading weapons of mass destruction, carrying out various influence operations, etc. It has been determined that a particular danger to the national security of NATO member states is primarily the intelligence and subversive activities of Russian and Chinese special services, as an integral part of the state security architecture of these countries. The activities of the intelligence services of Iran and Turkey are not without attention of the above-mentioned special services, since in modern conditions these countries support the aggressive policy of Russian Federation in the international arena. Given the identified challenges and threats, foreign intelligence services propose to strengthen the activities of all state institutions aimed at improving the state of ensuring national security in such areas as: support for sanctions policy against the Russian Federation; strengthening counterintelligence support for the economic and scientific sectors; introduction of preventive work among the local population; organization of a comprehensive approach to the resilience of each European country and its allies; updating of profile legislation; protection of strategic objects of EU countries; consolidation of global relations between EU countries in the context of the war in Ukraine; formation of a security environment on the European continent; ensuring the economic security of EU countries; organization by the special services of EU countries of countering international terrorism and its spread on the continent, etc. The results of the assessment by specialists-analysts of the special services of NATO member countries of modern threats to national security will allow adjusting the activities of state institutions and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine aimed at ensuring national security.
