Transformation Of Ukraine's Political Culture Under War Conditions: From Existential Challenge To New Subjectivity

The article examines the transformation of Ukraine's political culture as a result of russia's full-scale invasion that began in February 2022. The research aims to identify and analyze key changes in the political culture of Ukrainian society under existential threat, their impact on the state's democratic development, and to determine potential consequences for the political system. The study combines qualitative methods of analysis, including comparative, institutional, and discursive approaches, with quantitative empirical data from sociological research for a comprehensive examination of political culture transformations during wartime. The theoretical foundation comprises concepts of political culture and democratic consolidation. The results demonstrate that the existential threat to national existence has intensified processes of civic identity consolidation and facilitated a reconceptualization of traditional perceptions about relations between the state and civil society. Qualitative changes in citizens' political participation have been identified. It has been established that the volunteer movement is undergoing institutionalization as an influential political actor, digital forms of civic mobilization are developing, and the political discourse is becoming militarized while simultaneously experiencing increased centralization of power and growing trust in security institutions. The conclusions indicate that wartime experience has contributed to the formation of a more mature political culture that combines a high level of civic activity with a pragmatic understanding of the state's role in ensuring national security. These transformations create opportunities for democratic consolidation through strengthening civic responsibility and national unity, yet carry risks associated with militarization and centralization, requiring strategies to ensure democratic development in the post-conflict period.
